Comedy Night at Venus II to Raise Funds for Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield

On Saturday, January 26th, the Venus II restaurant will host several of the area’s funniest comedians in an effort to raise funds for the non-profit organization. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and all proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield.

The 1,000 member strong Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield provides the area’s youth between the ages of 6-18 with enrichment and recreation programs in a safe environment.

Funds from Comedy Night will help support ongoing programming and special events for the children at the club.

The evening’s line-up includes:

Chrissy Kelleher, emcee, who has done comedy all over New England, but calls Marshfield home. She has run a successful open mic in Marshfield for over three years and produces and appears in shows all over the South Shore. This past year she has opened for Kevin Nealon and Loretta LoRoche, appeared on Nickelodeon’s America’s Funniest Mom 3, and has acted in an independent film “Boston Psychiatric”, which is still in production.

Andrea Henry, a native of Brockton and a favorite on the Boston scene appearing regularly at The Comedy Connection and The Comedy Studio. Her stand up comedy credits include Nickelodeon’s Search for America’s Funniest Mom, Comedy Central’s Open Mic Fight, Yuk Yuk’s Great Canadian Laugh Off, and The Boston Comedy Festival Metro Reader’s Choice Award.

Jerry Thornton, a veteran comic and a winner of the WBCN Boston Comedy Riot competition. He appeared on HBO in the Emmy Award-winning Red Sox documentary “Curse of the Bambino.” He’s worked with national headliners Lenny Clarke, Steven Wright and Anthony Clark. He also writes for several sports websites including Barstool Sports.com and Cold, Hard Football Facts.

Rich Gustus, who has appeared on the Comedy Central show Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist. He has played roles in several independent films and has opened for Bill Maher, Dennis Leary, Kevin Nealon, Louie CK and many others over his twenty year career.

James Duffy, who is one of the Boston area’s newest rising stars. This past year he was a finalist in both the Shorebreak Comedy Competition in Rhode Island and the Valley of Laughter Comedy Festival in Western Mass.

John Garrison, who has been performing stand-up since 2004. He was one of eight comics to perform in the “New Comics Contest” at the 2004 New York Underground Comedy Festival and was the 2005 winner of the Judy Carter Palm Springs Comedy Conference Showcase. He was selected to perform in the 2007 Boston Comedy Festival and his stand up has been heard on XM Radio.

About the Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s purpose is to establish a safe haven for recreation, which includes a variety of supervised activities for greater than 4,000 youths within the town. With the mission “To inspire all young people to realize their full potential as productive and responsible citizens, as well as become tomorrow’s capable leaders”, the club is geared towards children between the ages of 6 to 18 years old.
