COMEDY AND AY

Stand up Comedy in Nigeria has come a long way. From the days of late Danjuma Mohammed, Alarm Blo, and Ali Baba who gave it a new face of professionalism.

It has grown to become one of the most lucrative industries in Nigeria, and has in recent times witnessed a large influx of young talented acts.

All thanks to Ali Baba who is referred to as the god father of comedy in Nigeria. Through him quite a number of Stand up comedians currently making waves in the entertainment industry have found their footing.

One of such inspired acts is Ayo Makun, one of Nigeria’s current finest comedians popularly known as AY. He is not only a comedian but an event manager and everything that has to do with entertainment generally.

AY was discovered in school by Ali Baba when he (AY) employed the services of Ali Baba in a show he organised in school. Ali Baba was impressed by his concept and invited AY to Lagos to delve into full time entertainment, event packaging and event management. He eventually became Ali Baba’s Personal Assistant and events manager.

He later created the AY live event which wasn’t a bad show for a first trial. If the first edition was a success, then the second edition AY Live 2 was sold out. Perhaps the interesting thing about it is that the crowd was so much, they had to have two shows that was not planned for and despite that it still came out successful.

The Ondo state born comedian draws inspiration for his jokes from his environment and does a lot of research on the net.

He recently tied the knot on the 29th of November, 2008 to his heart throb Mabel at the Household of God Church, the same day that Nollywood actress, Ini Edo got married.

Ay currently runs an half hour programme titled “The AY Show” across TV stations in Nigeria.
