Hindi News Websites – helping NRIs to stay informed about the latest in the country

Anirban Bhattacharya asked:

The golden sons and daughters of the Indian soil who managed to make a life on the equally golden shores of some land of plenty often dream about how things are “back home”. There is nostalgia for all things old, memories of people they left behind in their home country, longing for the little sights, sounds, and smells that were interwoven with their life in India but are sorely missed in distant lands. For Non Resident Indians (or NRIs) who want to keep in touch with the events in their country or want more specific information for personal use, a Hindi news website offers plenty.

Why Hindi News Website?

The grouse against the English media in India are many – “they” cover only the middle and upper class stories, they do not go down into the villages where 85% of India lives, and their reporting is biased by foreign media speculations. Hindi news organizations are seen as less likely to be influenced by the BBC or CNN – simply because the who’s who, the movers and shakers, do not pay attention to Hindi news channels. Because the language of reporting is Hindi, not many of the Hindi news channels report the foreign viewpoint; they are more interested in finding out how key policies and major events will affect the common citizen. With more and more NRIs showing a willingness to invest in India’s growth story, news from “the ground” is always welcome.

Hindi News

A Hindi news website is primarily geared towards NRIs (resident Indians who can afford PC and internet prefer to browse English or foreign news sites). The site provides news crucial to non-resident Indians (for example, the status of the dual citizenship bill or the upcoming general elections). They also feature opinion pieces, editorials, and analyses written with the overseas Indian in mind. Then there are forums, email service, and information related to everything from currency exchange rates to bridal wear and Navratra cuisine. The NRI’s world just got bigger thanks to Hindi news website.
